July 7, 2017 (Bedford) – Geoff Regan will cycle 50km around his riding on July 8 in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
“This trek is to celebrate the journey our country embarked on 150 years ago,” said Regan, the Member of Parliament for Halifax West. “Although the history of our land is much longer than that, I want to recognize how far we’ve come in that time, and all of the efforts by people in my community to keep us moving forward.”
Regan will depart from DeWolf Park in Bedford and cycle across the Hammonds Plains Road to Tantallon. From there he will take the Rails to Trails into Timberlea, then follow the Chain of Lakes Trail to Fairview.
Members of the community have been invited to ride along or visit one of the water stations along the route.
At the end of the ride, Regan will host a celebration at the Canada Games Centre, featuring cultural performances by the Lebanese Cedar Festival Dancers, Burundi Drummers, Nathan Sack of Sipekne’katik First Nation, and the Chinese Society of Nova Scotia.
“The diversity of our people is what makes Halifax West, and all of Canada, a vibrant place to live,” said Regan. “This event will highlight some of the cultures that are part of the fabric of our community.”
